Golden helps you plan when to leave and, when you choose Golden + Buddy, coordinate selected departures with an accountability buddy.
Information Golden uses
- Calendar details: event title, time, location, recurrence, and attendee information needed to identify eligible trips. Phone Calendar permission and reading happen on your device. For eligible physical trips, Golden sends and temporarily stores the event title, time, location, travel mode, and a device-calendar event identifier so departure reminders can keep working while the app is closed; event notes and attendee lists are not included in this reminder snapshot. If the optional direct Google connection is enabled, Golden requests read-only calendar access and securely stores the eligible event details needed to keep server reminders current.
- Location and route data: your recent location, destination, travel mode, and Google Maps route estimate are used to calculate a safe departure time. With background permission, Golden may update your location while the app is closed and use a temporary movement boundary around your latest location to determine whether that starting point is still usable. If Golden detects movement or can no longer trust the starting point, it stops treating that origin as current; any reminder based on an older confirmed route is labeled as a backup rather than current or live traffic. Live location is shared with a buddy only for a trip you marked as shared.
- Buddy information: names, email matching information, invitation and connection status, linked Golden installations, and app-notification delivery status. Legacy text-message connections may also include an encrypted phone number, consent, opt-out, and delivery status.
- Subscription and app data: purchase entitlement identifiers, push-notification tokens, reminder-delivery status, basic device and app diagnostics, and limited product-usage events.
- Feedback: information and screenshots you choose to send. Screenshot links use random identifiers and expire after no more than seven days.
How the information is used
Golden uses this information to calculate departure times, schedule reminders, provide directions and countdowns, deliver consented buddy updates, validate subscriptions, operate and secure the service, and improve reliability. Golden does not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising.
Service providers
Golden relies on service providers only as needed to operate the app, including Apple or Google for app distribution and in-app purchases, Expo and the device platform for push-notification delivery, RevenueCat and Stripe for web purchases and subscription status, Google for mapping and optional calendar access, Twilio for previously consented legacy text-message connections, PostHog for product analytics, and Railway for hosting and databases. Golden does not receive or store full payment-card details. These providers' handling of information is governed by their own terms and privacy policies.
Google user data
If you enable direct Google Calendar access, Golden's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
Retention and choices
Golden keeps server data only as long as reasonably needed to provide and secure the service or meet legal obligations. You can change calendar, notification, and location permissions in device settings; both people can confirm a Buddy disconnection in Golden; and the paying subscriber can manage the subscription through the applicable app store or web-purchase management link. Legacy text recipients can still reply STOP to end texts immediately. You may request access or deletion by contacting us.
Security and children
Golden uses reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, but no system is completely secure. Golden is not directed to children under 13.
